Selective Augmentation of Research and Development (SARD) is a scheme supported by Kerala State Council for Science Technology and Environment. The scheme is for augmentation of basic infrastructural facilities by way of acquisition of essential research equipments in the identified departments in colleges/universities in Kerala. The selection of the proposal submitted by the institution is through a peer – review mechanism and an expert committee evaluates the viabilities of the scheme based on the reviewers reports. The duration of the project is three years.

The P.G department of Chemistry of our college has been identified for SARD support in the year 2017 based on a project entitled “Water quality assessment and the development of green water treatment technologies for the lake of Sasthamcotta”.

Dr.B Beena, Associate Professor, Dept. of Chemistry is the Principal Investigator of this project. We have been sanctioned an amount of Rs. 18 lakhs mainly for the procurement of Research equipments, consumables and maintenance. A high-quality sophisticated instrument namely Atomic Absorption Spectrometer has been purchased out of it.  The purpose of the instrument is to measure the presence of heavy metal contaminants in trace amounts.The instrument is highly useful for research purposes and is functioning well.
